Seriously, just think about it rationally for a moment: How are we to take you seriously when you have no complaints during the past 5 Presidents, and now you are furious that the Black guy won the election and wants everyone to have health care? That he is not inciting other countries? What I’m trying to point to is the extreme outrage of the current President by people who were not outraged by the previous President, who actually did EVERY SINGLE THING THESE PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT TODAY! If you want the rest of us to listen to you, you need to come up with something better than “The Black guy with the Muslim name wants to give everyone health care” as a rallying cry. . . . → Read More: Why You Appear To Be Racist. So what is the role of the American government? To maintain the state and protect the citizens? To observe the Constitution that defines the Republic and respect the rights of the governed? How do we accomplish this? Well, the United States has components of accountability within the government. There are checks and balances. If we remove these components of accountability in order to become more efficient, then we lose part of the role of the government. Authoritarian polities are extremely efficient. “Mussolini made the trains run on time.” The role of the government is not to “turn a profit.” Running a state is not like running a corporation. The accountability of a Capitalist Corporation lies in the profit margins and the shareholders. The accountability of the American Republic lies in the rights and prosperity of the people of the United States. Anyway, the purpose of this exercise was not to really define one aspect of the role of government, but to ask people to think about how they define the basic role of government before they make assertions on what the government is “doing wrong” today. If the role of government is to provide basic medical care for all of the population, why is that? If universal health care violates the role of this government, why is that? To what extent does the government need to provide and protect its population? . . . → Read More: The Role of Government

“You hate America, don’t you?” she said. “That would be as silly as loving it,” I said. “It’s impossible for me to get emotional about it, because real estate doesn’t interest me. It’s no doubt a great flaw in my personality, but I can’t think in terms of boundaries. Those imaginary lines are as unreal to me as elves and pixies. I can’t believe that they mark the end or the beginning of anything of real concern to a human soul. Virtues and vices, pleasures and pains cross boundaries at will.” . . . → Read More: That would be as silly as loving it

So, if you want to put me on the Left in America, that is fine. I guess I am anti-aristocracy. I also think unfettered capitalism leads to OCP rule. Nobody is telling you what you can believe. What we disagree with is when you act on what you believe and want to impose it on other people. And don’t try to say the Left is doing the same thing. No one is being forced to have abortions. No one is being forced into a gay marriage. No one is being forced to live in an interracial household. No one is being forced to refute their gods. No one is being forced to worship anything they don’t believe in. These are the the things you want to control… and no one is even threatening to stop your Social Security, Medicare, or Unemployment. We all paid into it, not just the people on the Right. . . . → Read More: Gay marriage, Abortion, Taxes, Social Values, et cetera.
