Website Status and Gramsci

I am currently redesigning this site from the ground up.  I will be back shortly to elaborate on whatever I so desire in the very near future.

Please be patient as I am literally coding this entire site on piece at a time.

Ad Revenue and Politics and $#@!

Many of the ads displayed on these pages tend to be of a political nature. Likewise, I do not know if anyone else has noticed by many of them are fairly Republican/GOP/Right Wing/New Right oriented.

I have been working on a style for the site, but I have not yet decided on what to do about these ads.  Obviously, I am not going to run advertisements for the very organizations I am contemptuous of in the first place.

Also, I think it is interesting that there was so much animosity toward the Obama campaign being “grassroots” and now the Right is throwing big bucks into their “grassroots” campaigns.  There are ads about “taking back American” and “Fighting Socialism” popping up from Adsense quite frequently.

I was able to block the Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter ads as well as the Tea Party propaganda and Conservative pollsters, but it is getting to be too much.

I do think it is funny.  The Tea Party Movement is using a lot of tactics from the Free Speech Movement and Socialist/Communist movements that were developed in the 1960s.  Now they are using Obama Campaign tactics.
Maybe they will also start caring about the less wealthy, non-aristocratic, less conforming people who also live in their country and contribute to the nation.
I know… they are just using the political tactics, none of the ideology.  One can still hope.

In the meantime, I’m working on ao solution for these ads.  If I do not come up with one, I will just take them all down and have to go without my $3 a year generated from ad placements.

Advertisements, Revenue, Bandwidth, Et cetera . . .

Today is just some thoughts about this site.

First, I’m not sure about keeping Google Adsense.  The ads being displayed are pretty counter to the website theme.  Anyone else notice the Anti-Obama, borderline Tea Party banner at the top?  Also, I’m not fond of links to “White Power” sites when I do an entry about racism.   Any thoughts?  I need to go into the Google account and see if there are any settings to kind of gear the ads towards something better (or at least away from things I find counter to my own wishes.)

I also need to revise the conditions on posting replies.  Maybe an FAQ, too.  I am really tired of repeating myself.  Also, I don’t owe anyone anything on this site.  It is not a government website.  I can ignore and remove any content I wish.  The last thing I want is for this site to be a soundboard for pro-White/anti-minority sentiment.  I have considered making a Conservative site and espousing the same rhetoric of Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, Anne Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and even Lawrence Auster, I’m sure it would be a lot more profitable.  But it would also be a lot less enjoyable.  How long do I have to spout off pseudo-intellectual, racist crap before I’m tired of it?  Or before it starts to wear me down?  (And a small part of me fears I might begin to believe the crap, but I doubt it.  It’d be more akin to being a traveling faith healer, or snake oil salesman.)  I am planning on putting up a message board, so the threaded comments don’t have to fill up an entire 10 foot page, but that would use even more bandwidth.  I don’t know.  What do you think?

I am going to fill out the “about me” and “about this site” pages a bit better, too.  Eventually.  This all takes time, and I never technically launched this site.  It’s been up for a decade, and I just decided recently to throw up a blog and express my opinions and share my knowledge.  I’m pretty tired of Fox News and Friends espousing their fascist rhetoric with little to counter them besides John Stewart, Rachael Maddow, and a few others.

I’m also tired of these Brown Shirt, Tea Party, Racist, Fascist, Ultra-Right wing fringe making me marginalized as the “lunatic fringe.”  I’m supposed to be the one that everyone considers “out there.”  I’m just waiting for the day when I’m in the political minority because I don’t believe that chasing rainbows to steal leprechaun gold is going to solve the national economy.

Anyway, that should be all for today, I’m going to tweak the site a bit more and I’ll post something insightful that everyone can dismiss tomorrow.  (By everyone, I mean the dozen errant strangers that wonder onto this site.)

*Update* - I added Newsmax to the filter, but it is still showing Newsmax ads.  I’m doing my best to remove this bullshit.  Stay tuned.
